Ex-Employee Killed Retired OGTV Broadcaster To 'Teach Her A Lesson’— Ogun Police
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects over the gruesome murder of retired Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, at the woman’s residence in Ogun State.
This was just as the police disclosed that the prime suspect, a former employee of the deceased, confessed that the attack was carried out to teach the deceased a lesson.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, made this known on Thursday during a press briefing held at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, where he gave an update on the progress of the investigation into the double murder, the recovery of the deceased’s vehicle through technical tracking, the forensic examination of a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the attackers, and the arrest of all suspects directly linked to the crime.
Addressing journalists, CP Ojajuni said the tragic incident came to the attention of the police on June 21, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., after a report was made at Owode-Egba Police Station concerning suspicious developments at the residence of Madam Oyesiku.
According to him, preliminary information available to the police showed that the front door of the residence had been partially damaged, while the security house inside the compound was found locked, a development that immediately prompted police intervention.
Ojajuni said detectives were swiftly mobilised to the scene, where they made a shocking discovery.
“Police detectives were immediately mobilised to the scene. Upon gaining access to the premises, the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo, male, aged 38 years, the security guard, was discovered inside the security house, while the body of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was found lying in a pool of blood within the living room of the main building,” the commissioner said.
He explained that the scene was thereafter scientifically processed by investigators, while preliminary findings also revealed that the deceased woman’s Lexus RX 330 had been taken away from the compound, deepening suspicion that the incident involved both murder and robbery.
The police boss said the Command immediately launched what he described as an intensive investigation involving intelligence gathering, technical tracking and other coordinated operations aimed at identifying those behind the killings and recovering the missing vehicle.
According to him, those efforts yielded results the following day.
“Acting on credible intelligence and technical tracking analysis, operatives of the Command successfully traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330 vehicle belonging to the deceased on 22nd June, 2026,” Ojajuni said.
He added that although the vehicle’s ignition key had been removed and its registration number plates detached in what appeared to be an attempt to conceal its identity, detectives found the registration plate hidden under one of the seats.
The recovery of the plate, he said, enabled investigators to positively identify the vehicle as belonging to Madam Oyesiku.
The commissioner further disclosed that one of the major breakthroughs in the investigation came from a handwritten note allegedly left at the crime scene by the perpetrators.
He said the note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, and that the outcome generated vital investigative leads which significantly assisted detectives in tracing the suspects.
“One critical piece of evidence recovered from the scene was a handwritten note apparently left behind by the perpetrators. The note was subjected to forensic examination and analysis, which generated valuable investigative leads that significantly aided detectives in identifying and tracing those responsible for the crime,” he said.
Ojajuni told journalists that after days of intelligence-led operations and painstaking investigation, police detectives identified and arrested the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, on June 24, 2026, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was said to be working as a labourer.
He added that follow-up operations led to the arrest of two other suspects identified as Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
The police commissioner said their arrest brought into custody all identified suspects directly linked to the criminal conspiracy behind the killings.
During interrogation, the principal suspect, Philip, reportedly made a confessional statement admitting his role in the murder of Madam Oyesiku and also implicating the two others as accomplices recruited by him to execute the crime.
“During interrogation, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip made a confessional statement, admitting his involvement in the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku. He further disclosed that he had recruited Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, male, aged 27 years, and Sobu Obafunsho, male, aged 36 years, to participate in the crime,” Ojajuni said.
The commissioner stated that, according to Philip’s confession, the attack was planned following grievances he had against the deceased from the period he worked as a security guard in her employment.
He said the suspect confessed that the killing of Madam Oyesiku was intended to “teach her a lesson.”
Ojajuni gave further details of how the deadly operation was allegedly carried out, saying the suspects struck on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in the afternoon.
According to the police, the three suspects first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, and used him to gain access to Madam Oyesiku’s residence.
Once inside the building, they allegedly attacked Madam Oyesiku and later murdered the security guard as well.
“The suspects carried out the act on Saturday, 20th June, 2026, in the afternoon. According to the statement, they first overpowered the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, male, aged 38 years, and used him to gain access to the residence. Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard,” Ojajuni said.
The police further said that after allegedly killing both victims, the suspects fled the premises with Madam Oyesiku’s Lexus RX 330, which was later recovered through intelligence-led and technical tracking operations in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
Ojajuni said the criminal conspiracy involving Philip, Ayoola and Obafunsho ultimately led to the tragic deaths of both Madam Oyesiku and her security guard.
“The criminal conspiracy involving Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and Sobu Obafunsho ultimately resulted in the tragic deaths of both Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo,” he said.
The police commissioner also disclosed that following the confessional statements obtained from the suspects, detectives carried out further searches at locations connected to them, leading to the recovery of several items believed to be relevant to the investigation.
He listed the recovered exhibits as a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other materials linked to the crime.
“Following the suspects’ confessional statements, detectives conducted further searches at locations linked to them. During the operation, a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other relevant exhibits connected to the investigation were recovered,” he stated.
While announcing the progress made in the case, the Ogun State Police Command stressed that all the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law despite the confessional statements and the evidence already recovered.
Ojajuni said the investigation was still ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure the diligent prosecution of every suspect connected to the killings.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to emphasise that while the suspects have made useful statements and substantial evidence has been recovered in the course of the investigation, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law. Investigation is ongoing to consolidate all available evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of all suspects connected with the crime,” he said.
He added that the Command remained committed to ensuring that justice is done and that everyone involved in what he described as a heinous crime would be brought to book.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the police commissioner said.
