Police Arrest ‘30 Cultists’ During Initiation Gathering In Uncompleted Building

The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of 30 suspected cultists following the disruption of an alleged cult initiation procession in Isara-Remo, Ogun State.

In statement issued on Thursday, th state police public relations officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said goperatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), working in collaboration with detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division, carried out the operation on Wednesday, June 16, 2026.

The police identified the suspects as Muiz Olawale, Adeniji Akinwale, Ajayi Victor, Damilola Oluwasegun, Adewale Olayemi, Aminu Rahmon, Olodudu Ademola, Matthew Imoleayo, Adenle Habeb, Lekan Qudus, Olamilekan Ayanleke, Adegbasa Ezekiel, Ibukun Adeniyi, Abiodun Babatunde, Oshofolahan Michael, Salau Adedeji, Benjamin Kehinde, Magnus Elijah, Oluwadamilare Samson, Oyebowale Ojutona, Abiodun Makanjuola, Idowu Toheeb, Olamide Sunday, Malik Also, Abdullahi Damilola, Israel Ayomikun, Oyeledun Ezekiel, Adelabu Imoleayo, Ajayi Oluwasegun and Olaawun Faith.

The statement disclosed that the operation followed intelligence reports indicating that a group of suspected hoodlums had gathered at an uncompleted building in Isara-Remo for what authorities described as an unlawful assembly.

According to the police, the suspects had allegedly converged for "meeting activities, consumption of alcoholic substances, chanting, and initiation attempts."

The command stated that upon receiving the intelligence, the Commander of the VCRU immediately mobilised a combined team of operatives from the unit, the Isara Area Command and the Isara Division.

The officers subsequently stormed the location, dispersed the gathering and arrested the suspects during what the police described as "a well-coordinated tactical operation."

Police further revealed that four vehicles allegedly abandoned by fleeing suspects were recovered at the scene.

Items recovered during the operation included "one jack knife, one local drum, one 'sekere' (rattle), and bottles suspected to have been used for alcohol consumption during the illegal assembly."

The statement added that all 30 suspects were taken into custody and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation.

"The suspects were immediately taken into custody and have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, where they are currently undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation," the statement said.

The police also disclosed that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest other suspects who escaped during the operation.

Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved in the operation for their swift response and professionalism.

Ojajuni described the operation as "a clear demonstration of the Command's sustained intelligence-led policing strategy and zero tolerance for violent crime and unlawful assemblies."

He reiterated that "cultism and related criminal activities will not be condoned in any part of the State."

The commissioner further urged individuals involved in cult-related activities to abandon such associations and embrace lawful conduct, while calling on residents to support security agencies with timely information.

The Ogun State Police Command also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and "promptly report suspicious gatherings or criminal activities to the nearest police formation."
