The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has selected Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, the biological son of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate.

Spokesperson of Kwankwasiyya, Habibu Saleh Mohammed, confirmed the development in a terse statement on Monday.

“HE Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo unveiled Hon Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as running mate for 2027 Governorship Election,” he said.

The younger Kwankwaso had resigned from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration as Commissioner for Youths and Sports following the defection of the governor to All Progressive Congress.

While quitting government, Mustapha had said the decision was taken “with a heavy heart”, while expressing gratitude to Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the people of Kano State.

He highlighted the experiences and lessons gained during his tenure, thanking the governor for the trust reposed in him.

“As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve,” Mustapha said.

“I hope for the best for our sports development programs and initiatives, and I am confident that they will flourish in the years to come.”

Meanwhile, Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor of the state, is also currently the NDC vice presidential candidate, joining the ticket of former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, for the 2027 general elections.
