NDLEA Recovers 1,102kg Cannabis At Lagos Alaba Market, Others In Delta, Gombe, FCT Raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded a series of major drug seizures and arrests across the country, including the recovery of 1,102 kilograms of Ghana Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, around the Alaba International Market in the Ojo area of Lagos State.

In a statement released on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, its director of media and advocacy, the agency disclosed that the large consignment was intercepted during an operation carried out on Saturday, June 13, as operatives intensified efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks nationwide.

Similarly in Delta State, NDLEA operatives on June 8 arrested a 36-year-old suspect, Onya Jude, at Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area. He was allegedly found in possession of five gas cylinders used to conceal 2.8 kilograms of Loud, another strong strain of cannabis.

The anti-narcotics agency also apprehended two suspected drug dealers, Jamilu Idris, also known as Jama, and Aminu Abdullahi, alias Momo, in the Kasuwan Katako area of Gombe State. The suspects, aged 40 and 33 respectively, were arrested with three large blocks of skunk weighing 2.738 kilograms.

In Kano State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a 39-year-old woman, Ngozi Gaius, along the Zaria-Kano road on June 12. She was allegedly transporting 6,000 pills of Tramadol 225mg at the time of her arrest.

Similarly, two suspects, Nasiru Hamza, 47, and Muhammad Sani, 38, were arrested along the Bode Saadu road in Kwara State while conveying 600 compressed blocks of skunk weighing 304 kilograms. The illicit consignment was being transported in a black Toyota Jeep bearing the special registration number P JHR 783.

In Taraba State, NDLEA officers acting on intelligence raided the warehouse of a suspected drug dealer, Ali Adamu, 45, at Maihula village in Bali Local Government Area. During the operation, operatives recovered 63 jumbo bags of cannabis sativa weighing 1,121.5 kilograms.

The agency also recorded another major seizure in the Federal Capital Territory, where operatives on patrol along the Gwagwalada Expressway arrested Emmanuel Nnadi, 46.

Items recovered from the suspect included 30,400 pills of Tramadol 225mg and 100mg, 750 pills of Pregabalin 300mg, 200 pills of Molly, and 592 bottles of codeine-based syrup.

The latest operations underscore the agency's ongoing nationwide campaign against the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs.
