Oyo APC Guber Candidate Denies Involvement In Adelabu’s Sister’s Kidnapping
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State for the 2027 election and senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, has strongly refuted allegations linking him to the abduction of Mrs. Olaide Adegoke, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
Alli described the claims circulating on social media as unfounded and politically motivated, insisting that he has no connection whatsoever with the kidnapping incident.
In a statement issued by his media office and shared via his X account on Sunday, the senator dismissed reports suggesting his involvement as “false, malicious, baseless, irresponsible, defamatory and politically motivated.”
Mrs. Adegoke was kidnapped on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, while taking her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, to school in Ibadan. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the Elewura area, where armed men reportedly intercepted her vehicle and whisked her and the children away.
The victims were eventually rescued on Saturday after days in captivity.
Reacting to reports linking him to the crime, Alli’s media office noted that the allegations were reportedly based on statements attributed to a suspect currently under investigation, stressing that such claims lacked credibility and had not been substantiated by security agencies.
The statement described attempts to associate the senator with the crime as both illogical and reckless.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Alli has no connection whatsoever with the said criminal incident, the individuals mentioned, or any activity related to kidnapping or violence,” the statement said.
The media office further alleged that efforts to tie campaign materials or political stickers to criminal activities were part of a coordinated attempt by opponents to damage the lawmaker’s reputation following the recent APC governorship primary, in which Alli emerged victorious over Adelabu.
According to the statement, even reports making the allegations acknowledged that no law enforcement agency had established any link between the senator and the kidnapping.
“We note with concern that even the report itself admitted that no security agency has established any link between Senator Alli and the alleged crime.
“It is therefore disturbing that faceless propagandists would deliberately weaponise unconfirmed claims to mislead the public and heat up the polity,” the statement added.
Alli also condemned kidnapping and other violent crimes, reaffirming his support for initiatives aimed at improving security and safeguarding lives and property across Oyo State and the country.
The senator urged residents to disregard the allegations and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of jeopardising ongoing investigations or creating unnecessary political tension.
He further called on security agencies to trace the origin of the claims and prosecute individuals responsible for disseminating what he described as false information and political blackmail.
The statement concluded that Alli remains committed to his legislative responsibilities and focused on serving the people of Oyo State despite what it termed attempts to distract him through misinformation and smear campaigns.
