Kano Tragedy: Woman Burns Husband, Co-Wife, and Children Alive

A horrific arson attack in the Hotoro area of the Kano metropolis has left 28-year-old Firdausi Musa and her two young children, Khadija Ya’u (7) and Ismail Ya’u (3) , with severe burns. The tragedy occurred late Monday night at the Mai Allo area of Hotoro quarters when Firdausi's co-wife, Maryam Muhammad, allegedly doused the mother and her children with petrol before setting them on fire. The victims' father, Malam Saminu, was also burned while desperately trying to rescue his family from the raging inferno.

The shocking incident has thrown the local community into deep mourning and distress, leading to the swift arrest of the suspect. Maryam Muhammad is currently being held in police custody at the Mariri Police Division . Meanwhile, the injured family members are receiving urgent medical attention, with the mother and children split between the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala , and the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.

The incident occurred less than two weeks after the victim, a 28-year-old mother, moved into the matrimonial home.

Relative Rukayya stated that Firdausi had previously fled due to threats from the co-wife but returned following her husband's intervention. The victim reportedly confirmed to her family that the co-wife doused her in petrol and set her ablaze.

The Kano State Police Command could not be reached for comment before publication.
