Police Manhandle NSCDC Operatives

SOKOTO, Sept 29, (THEWILL) - More than six personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) have been injured in a serious clash with members of the Nigeria Police Force in Sokoto State.


The incident occurred today at an event at Ahmad Maigero Open Air Theatre leaving the personnel with bodily injuries with torn uniforms.


THEWILL Northern Nigeria correspondent who visited the Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital saw the victims receiving medical attention there.


A leader of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, Tunji Peter Olasoji while speaking on what transpired at the scene of the clash said the NSCDC personnel were invited for the event at the theatre but on getting there some police officers at the venue denied them entrance which prompted the fracas.


The Public Relations Officer of the Corps Nasiru Muhammad described the incident as unfortunate and promised to take the matter to a logical conclusion in accordance to the provision of the law.


Also, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Lawal Abdullahi confirmed the incident and said the force has opened an investigation regarding the matter while assuring that any officer found guilty would be dealt with in accordance to the law.


"But information at our disposal revealed that there was maybe misunderstanding between the Civil Defense and the Police and based on that information, the commissioner of police, Muhammad J. Abubakar directed his assistant in charge of CID to investigate the matter with a view to bringing those perpetrators to book and anybody found wanting will surely be dealt with," he stressed.
