NEWARK, N.J. – A young marriage collapses within 24 hours, but the real enemy is not infidelity or incompatibility — it is a hijacker from the spiritual realm. In her latest novel, “The Hijacker Strikes Back” (published by AuthorHouse), author Caroline Omoifo Ilogienboh dives deep into the roots of personal and communal breakdown, exposing the invisible forces that sabotage love, fracture families, and perpetuate injustice.

A sequel to “The Greatest Hijack,” the story follows Candice Zakeih, an FGM survivor and activist, and her husband Prince Babza Tabor, a celebrated tycoon, who find their wedding joy shattered just after one day. Candice is devastated, thinking the wound of Clitoridectomy clitoridectomy (female genital mutilation) doomed her marriage, until an unusual, explosive outburst from Babza prompts her to search for another cause of their discord. As Candice confronts forces beyond the physical realm, she discovers a deeper truth: unresolved childhood trauma, not her circumcision, is at the heart of her husband’s unraveling. What follows is a battle to win Babza’s heart between Candice and the devil.

“‘The Hijacker Strikes Back’ will resonate with readers because it combines the urgency of current global issues with a deep spiritual narrative that reveals invisible forces influencing human behavior,” Ilogienboh states. “I want readers to come away with a renewed awareness that the battles we face, be they emotional, physical, cultural, or spiritual, are not isolated struggles, but part of a larger story about redemption, purpose, and freedom. That bondage can be broken, both spiritually and socially, when we confront what hides in plain sight, like Candice does with FGM and Babza’s captivity. That spiritual clarity matters in a world clouded by confusion, because not everything invisible is imaginary. That love should be nurtured to prevent it from atrophy. That love isn’t passive or soft, but a courageous, intervening force capable of healing fractured lives and legacies. That healing from childhood trauma is possible, even when trauma runs deep or tradition is tangled with pain. That humans are imperfect, mistakes are tools for learning and not for condemnation. And, ultimately, that freedom is worth fighting for, on every level of human existence.

“The Hijacker Strikes Back” arrives as global health leaders escalate their efforts to combat FGM. In April 2025, the World Health Organization issued new guidelines to halt the medicalization of the practice, which now spans 94 countries, according to a recent report. This work puts a human face on the issue while illustrating the psychological and spiritual aftermath often overlooked in policy debates. Through an allegorical lens, it examines real-world issues like divorce, shame and identity loss — particularly in the aftermath of gender-based violence.
