The identities of the eight victims involved in the Ill-fated military helicopter that crashed on Wednesday in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region in Ghana, have been revealed.

The tragic crash claimed the lives of all the eight persons — three crew members and five passengers— who were on board of the Z9 Ghana Armed Forces helicopter.

The country's Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, were both killed in the crash.

The other casualties include Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC; Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Anala; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo.

The officials were said to be traveling to Obuasi to attend the launch of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme aimed at tackling illegal mining.

Ghana's armed forces said radar contact was lost with a Z9 Air Force helicopter before the incident.

The aircraft, commonly used by the Ghana Air Force for transport and medical evacuation, was last tracked to an undisclosed location before communication with air traffic control was lost.

Although the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, early speculation suggests it may have been triggered by either a technical malfunction or poor weather conditions.

As at the time of filing this report, emergency responders are currently at the crash site, carrying out recovery operations.
