TOPIC: COMPLACENCY, THE KILLER OF DESTINY
SCRIPTURE: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. PHILIPPIANS 3:13.

When I was about 5 years old in Ministry, some journalists came to interview me and said, “This ministry has succeeded so fast. Can you tell us the secret of your success?” At that point I was running an interdenominational ministry. I hadn’t even started a church.

I was shocked! Can you see or imagine the question they were asking me at just five years old in Ministry?

And truly, at that point, as a young minister, I was doing so much exploits probably big in comparison to what my mates and contemporaries were doing. Then the journalists came to ask me to tell them our secret of ministerial success.

I said to them, “We have not yet started and you are asking us our secret of success? We are only five years old as a ministry . When we start, I will let you know.” And I have not let them know till now.

In my mind, I said to myself, “How do you tell a five- year old child to tell you how he succeeded in doing what?”

When you know that you have not started, it would kill every spirit of complacency and early arrival mentality in you. Complacency or early arrival mentality is a killer of destiny.

God’s servant, Pastor E. A. Adeboye said that he once had a teacher. When he and others were making C grade in class, this teacher would tell them, “your mates are making B grade and you are here making C in mathematics.”

Then they put more effort in studying hard and got a B grade; and then the teacher said, “your mates are getting A, you are getting B.”

When he worked harder and got an A grade, the teacher said, “your mates are getting A+, you are here getting A.”

Then they struggled and got the A+. And the teacher said again to them, “your mates are already in the university, but you are here talking of A+. You should be in the university by now.”

The lesson here is, refuse to settle down. Keep moving forward.

Refuse to be complacent; refuse to arrive too early.

Make up your mind to keep making progress.
PRAYER: Lord, I receive the grace to keep making progress always. I receive the grace never to allow premature satisfaction, in Jesus’ Name.
