American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) Wishes The Syrian People Peace, Unity, And Prosperity:
The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins all peace-loving people across the world in congratulating the Syrian people on the toppling of the Assad dictatorship regime. The will of the Syrian people has prevailed, and the choice of the Syrians must be fully respected.
The fall-out of the Assad regime change is a historical change for the Syrian people who have for many years endured immense hardship, injustices and struggled for this change.
There are new opportunities for the Syrian people. Looking into the future, we urge the new leaders of Syria to embrace all the components of Syria and to establish governance consistent with the UN Charter on Human Rights.
AHRC commends the peaceful transition of power in Syria witnessed thus far and urges all stakeholders to prioritize maintaining order, preserving the country’s infrastructure and its municipalities, public service entities, religious institutions, and historical sites. Syria’s resources belong to its people and must be preserved.
AHRC calls upon the United Nations and the international community to engage with the new Syria and help integrate it into the international community of nations. The sovereignty and unity of Syria is the priority.
AHRC condemns the Israeli aggression against Syria. The land grab and the bombings must stop. AHRC calls on the international community to stop Israeli aggression against the Syrian people. Israeli aggression is a threat to international peace and security and a blatant violation of the international law.
AHRC wishes the Syrian people peace and prosperity. Regardless of the political arrangement that the new Syria embraces, we urge putting human rights front and center.
“May God Almighty grant the people of Syria peace, unity, and prosperity as they rise from the darkness of oppression to build a new and brighter future,” said Imam Steve Elturk, AHRC Executive Board member and Co-chair of the Imams Council of Michigan. “We pray for a Syria where justice prevails, dignity is restored, and every citizen can live with freedom, peace, harmony, and hope," added Elturk.
