My 10 Days Experience Of Dubai
Up until one of my sisters started working from Dubai, I didn’t really think much of the city. I was oblivious to the constructions, the innovations, the futuristic infrastructure, etc. I never thought that deserts could be so beautiful, with varying amounts of shrubs and sand colours and terrains.
Last month I made the trip to the UAE – My sister came to pick me up at the famous Dubai international airport. She had to wait for a while as I had to fill in forms after Emirates Airline had lost my luggage. While we were traveling to my hotel, she gave me a brief description about Dubai, what is driving so many people to visit Dubai, the transport system, tourist attraction spots, etc. Dubai has a good Metro system and is cheap according to the country’s standards. And yes, we used the Metro a couple of times while shopping.
WEATHER
Dubai, as everyone says, is a desert city with scorching heat, temperatures ranging between 35 – 91 Degrees. I kept a 1.5l bottle of water to take every night, and I had a handheld fan that I only used on my trip to Abu Dhabi on the 7th day and on Desser Safari. The UAE has created four seasons as we could see from the floods this year.
We started our travel and exploring places the same day I arrived, and the city was simply spectacular – it reminded me of New York. From their over-the-top skyscrapers and top-notch accommodations to the absurd cars and mind-blowing attractions, you can see and do absolutely anything there. All the Malls and Metro host free wi-fi as per their initiative of “Smart UAE”.
One thing in Dubai is several sports cars on the streets. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Infiniti cars dominate the streets of Dubai.
We started our city travel the same day I arrived – We had to go out to shop for some clothes and stuff as I had literally nothing at all. I recovered my luggage after 4 days in the city.
The embassies, gold, spice and textile souks are in the old part of Dubai, in Bur Dubai and Deira. The British embassy seemed to be the biggest of all on the same street. We were treated to the traditional Arab restaurant in the old Dubai – we sat on the floor and were entertained by ‘Matali’.
Diera has a large Asian population and it's advisable for women to dress conservatively there to help avoid stares. Here’s also the gold souq which has several shops of gold. We experienced a boat ride from Bur Dubai to Deira and vice versa. There is also the Deira city centre which is a one stop shop all place – it sells everything from goods to entertainment, Brands, grocery, electronics, movie theatre, etc. It’s got everything – every major store in the UK and USA is here. In the Gold Souk, traders there were literally pulling my hand to sell me Viagra and alternative herbs. The souk consists of over 380 retailers, most of whom are jewellery traders.
