Kwara State Govt Dissolves LG Transitional Committees

By Damilare Adeleye

The Kwara State Government has announced the dissolution of the Transitional Implementation Committee in the 16 local government areas in the state ahead of the local government election slated for September this year.

This was contained in a statement issued on late Friday and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development, Mrs Modupe Adekeye.

She noted that the Director of Personnel Management in each local government should take over the administration of each of the councils.

“Directors of Personnel Management are to take charge of the administration of the 16 local government areas of Kwara State until a new election is held in September.

“This effectively dissolves the Transition Implementation Committees earlier appointed to manage the councils pending new local government elections.

“This development comes a few days after the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission slated the next local council election for September 21, 2024,” the statement read.

It was recalled that in 2021, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the State appointed TIC chairmen to run the local government administration in the state.

This was as the chairman of the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC), Alhaji Okanla Baba, said that elections would be held across the 16 local government areas of the state on September 21, 2024.
