Intervene in Rivers Crisis, PDP urges Jonathan, Nwodo

Source: pointblanknews.com

The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has in recent time, been submerged in internal attrition. But, undoubtedly the supremacy battle is an ill wind that would not blow the party any good, especially as the 2011 elections are around the corner.

In the light of the above, the founding fathers of the party in the State, deeply concerned that the party would lose grounds to its rival political groups, urge the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces to wade into the situation for the restoration of normalcy and perfect harmony among the disagreeing factions.

We also urge the national chairman of the party, Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo, to toe a simillar line of action, jointly with the president or independently, to bring back to the central fold all those who may feel alienated or cut off from the activities of the party in the State.

Given that the development threatens party foundation in the State and the country at large, with regards to the 2011 elections, it is our candid opinion that the party executives at the State and local government levels be dissolved to create room for all genuine members to participate in party affairs and contribute worthwhile ideas to its success in the expected elections and subsequent others.

The present atmosphere in the State is not conducive for the overwhelming success for which the PDP is known in the State and the South-South region. Rivers State and the South-South are key areas where President Jonathan can be guaranteed his major electoral success.

It will not be in his interest and that of the party for the current crisis rocking the State chapter to be left unattended.

As things stand now, genuine members of the party in the State are disenfranchised and ostracized. The party secretariat along Aba Road has been permanently under lock and keys for three years now, while party meetings are held in Government House and presided over by Governor Rotimi Amaechi's top aids like the Chief of Staff, Barr. Nyesom Wike.

We make this call as genuine party members desirous of the success and continuous progress of the party not only in Rivers State but the South-South geo-political zone and the country at large.
