No fewer than four people have been confirmed killed while many others were wounded when assailants suspected to be herdsmen invaded Nimbo community in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.

It was learnt that the attack occurred on Sunday night.

The deceased victims are Okeh Simon Ugwu, Oruku Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.

Residents of the community, who spoke to the press, said the herders invaded the community late Sunday night and attacked mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo village, killing the four persons instantly.

A gruesome video sighted on Monday morning showed a deserted community.

The voice in the video cried out that the invaders took the villagers by surprise and shot sporadically at the mourners.

Tables and chairs could be seen scattered in the compound where the mourners had gathered, with lifeless villagers also seen in the pool of their blood.

One of the residents, Chijoke Okunna disclosed that the corpses of the four victims had been recovered.

According to him, the community has formed search parties to look for missing people.

Okunna said that seven people inflicted with machete cuts had been taken to a hospital in Nsukka town.

It was recalled that late last month, two brothers were slain by herdsmen in the community.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the tragic incident on Monday morning.

He said a press statement about the tragic incident would soon be released to the media.
