The Nigerian Army has reportedly flown the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Clement Ikolo, to Abuja for questioning over the killing of 17 military personnel in Delta State on March 14, 2024.

Ikolo, who is one of the eight people declared wanted by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters yesterday, surrendered himself to the police in Asaba on Thursday shortly after.

Before turning himself in, the monarch said he was shocked and surprised to see his name among the list of persons declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters.

He said, “It is a shock to me because I have no hands in such things. I don’t believe in anything that has got to do with truncating the lives of human beings.

“I am not in any way shape or form connected to this. Let it be stated clearly here that I haven’t been able to access the kingdom even as a monarch to date.”

The monarch said he received his staff of office on November 16, 2023.

He reportedly arrived at the state police command headquarters on Thursday evening to report himself to police commissioner, Olufemi Abaniwonda.

However, on Friday morning, the police handed him over to the military authorities.

According to reports, the monarch was escorted to the Asaba International Airport by the Commanding Officer, 63 Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Asaba, the Delta State Police Commissioner, and some other senior military officers.

He boarded an Air Peace airline, which departed Asaba Airport tarmac at about 9.10 am to Abuja.
