The Assistant General Manager of one of the front line investment Banks, Stanbic IBTC, Mr. Roland Egede and his elder siblings last week, celebrated their mother, Dame Mabel Bamidele Egede who turned 80.

In a well attended Birthday party, the children of the Egede Matriarch, the grand-children and relations from far and near took turns to pay tribute to her.

The event, which held in Agbo, the home town of the popular Egede family, also witnessed the presence of Obi of Owa Ancient Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi Dr. Emmanuel Efiezomor.

The event started with a Sermonette and prayers. It was conducted by Rt Rev Ifeanyichukwu Ekpenisi, Bishop of Ika Diocese, who delivered a Sermonette on 'gratitude' and also prayed to God to continue to grant Mama Egede strength and sound health to enjoy her retirement age.

Bishop Ekpenisi also prayed for the entire members of Egede family, including friends and Well-Wishers who came to identify with the family.

The children of Mama Egede took turns to shower glowing tributes on their Mother who saw them through even after the their father, a renowned Economist, Chief Egede Ikechukwu's transition.

Mama Egede is flanked by family and the clerics after a prayer session for her and the family.

The first son and the heir of Egede family, Dr. Christopher Egede, said that Mama in her wisdom shielded them from various juvenile distractions and was always visible to be part of virtually every risky activities while growing up. He described her Mother as a great loving mother.

For Austin, the second son and the second child of the family, he also narrated the same experience, describing their mother as the smartest. He said that before any move Mama would be waiting for you to caution you and persuade you out of such trappings of life.

The twin daughters of Mama, Beatrice Nwachukwu and Bernice Ogbolu were also visible as they sang Igbo tunes 'Ezigbo Nne" (Sweet Mother), thanking her for her care and for raising them with good morals, which have been their guide even as mothers.

When it was the turn of the AGM of Stanbic IBTC Bank, Mr. Roland Egede, he simply rendered an emotionally laden rhyme, titled "My Mother". Roland Egede is the youngest among Mama Egede's children.

In his rhyme, he recalled what her Mother had to go through to nurture them when they were babies. He also rendered in his rhyme their commitment to reciprocate all her love, care and sacrifices at her feeble and weary stage in life, praying to God to bless her mother

Mama Egede in her response blessed bis children, commending them for the honour done to her in life. She also prayed that their children will do even greater honour to them.

The high point of the event was the quiz conducted by the Master of Ceremony on the things Mama Egede loves ranging from her best Bible quotation, food, colour, best friend and drink.

The event witnessed the outpouring of the best of the Ika people, Government functionaries, Management Staff of Stanbic IBTC, the Royal families, Clergy and business associates.

Meanwhile, the former Managing Director of defunct Bond Bank, John Darlington was also present to cheer the family up.
