Reversal of Unity Schools Fee Hike : Rep. Kama Commends President Tinubu.
Nigeria Parents Commend Hon. Kama For Courageous and Sensitive Representation.
The member representing Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Hon. Nkemkanma Kama has commended the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the order given to the authorities in all Federal Institutions to stop fees hike. This was revealed in a statement by the Special adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, Dele Alake on Monday, July 31st, 2023.
The lawmaker who recently sponsored a motion urging the Federal Government to suspend the increase of school fees of Federal Unity Schools applauded the President for a listening ear. In his motion, he emphasized the rise in the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria at the moment adding that this ill-timed hike in the fees will unleash incalculable social, moral, economic, and psychological disaster and will cause irredeemable shocks on our already overwhelmed country.
Hon. Kama further urged the Clerk to invite the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Education and the National Body of the Parents-Teachers-Association to appear before the House within the next seven days to deliberate on the issues prompting the increase.
Reacting to the fee hike reversal order, Nigerian parents have praised Hon. Kama Nkemkanma for taking the courageous step of moving the therapeutic motion which elicited the presidential order reversing the ill-timed fee hike. This was revealed by the National Coordinator of Nigeria Parents Forum, Mr. Monday Eze, in a media interaction with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.
In the words of Mr. Eze: "The order reversing the ill-timed fee hike is a welcome development. Nigerian parents owe Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, a courageous federal legislator whose knack for developmental representation is yet unequaled, a humongous debt of gratitude. Hon. Kama stands out as a responsive and sensitive lawmaker and this made him, after listening to the alarm raised by Nigerian parents in June 2023 over the fee hike, to move the welfarist motion urging the Federal Government to reverse the fee hike. Nigerian parents equally appreciate the role of Nigerian Union Journalists in the struggle for the fee hike reversal."
Nigerian parents forum charged other legislators at different tiers of government to emulate the courage and sensitivity of the Ohanivo representative whom the forum said has become the Ambassador of Nigerian Parents, ANP.
