AHRC Calls for Active Participation in June Jubilee Events, Celebrating Life & Hope:

The American Human rights Council (AHRC-USA) calls for active participation in the NAACP - Detroit events celebrating and commemorating Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 60th Freedom Walk. In June 1963, Dr. King led a walk down Woodward Avenue before giving an early version of his “I Have a Dream Speech” at the then-named Cobo Hall. The Walk drew crowds of an estimated 125,000 people.

A series of events are planned to observe this historic occasion that will begin on June 22 and end on June 25th, 2023, in the city of Detroit, MI.

The march is expected to draw thousands of peace and justice loving people to Detroit. The Jubilee Celebration will begin with a Freedom Summit on June 22, 2023, unveiling of the permanent statue of Dr. M. L. King Jr. at the Hart-Plaza, on June 23, 2023, and the 60th Freedom Walk on June 24, 2023

The June Jubilee will be concluded with the NNACP-Detroit 68th Annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner that will be held on June 25, 2023, in Detroit. Thousands are expected to attend this inspiring occasion.

“It is a memento of the first occasion when Dr. King gave his first ‘I Have A Dream’ speech right in the City of Detroit,” said NAACP Detroit President Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony.

“The Dr. Martin Luther King statue and events honor a man who has made this country a better version of itself,” said Imad Hamad, AHRC Executive Director. “Travel anywhere in the world and Dr. Martin Luther King is as recognizable as the Statute of Liberty,” added Hamad. “Dr. King continues to be an inspiration not only to us in the US, but all over the world as well,” concluded Hamad.
