ABUJA, August 08, (THEWILL) - The Elders Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state has commended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for ordering the dissolution of the state party executive.

Chairman of the Elders Council, Alhaji Sule Onabiyi who disclosed this in a statement said the decision was timely and in order.

He said "the directive of the National Working Committee of Peoples Democratic Party PDP under the leadership of Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, dissolving the Executive Council of Ogun State PDP and calling for harmonization of executive positions between different groups in the party.

"We commend the courage of our party national chairman, Nwodo for taking this decision which is in tandem with the recommendations of the General Ike Nwachukwu (Rtd) Reconciliation Committee which the previous national chairman found inexplicably impossible to implement for over a year when we complained of the illegality of the state executive council".

Onabiyi, who is also the board chairman of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), noted that the dissolution was a clear manifestation of the commitment of the national chairman to his promise of ensuring internal democracy as against god-fatherism and imposition of candidates.

"We further call on the national chairman to remain resolute in his directive that state governors should not visit his house at night which may have been indirectly linked to what stalled the implementation of the Nwachukwu committee’s recommendations," the Elders said.

The Elders Council also pledged its loyalty to the national chairman reformist agenda adding that "they will continue to remain loyal party men and women working for the overall electoral victory of our party and not any individual aspiration."
