Abuja Building Collapse: Many Trapped, Emergency Responders Activate Search And Rescue Operation (Photos)

A building collapse has been reported in Gwarinpa, a sprawling estate, about twenty minutes to Abuja city centre. A three-storey building under construction located opposite 7th Avenue junction caved in at about 11.00 am today. The building which is about one kilometer away from CharlyBoy's house and about 200 meters to Galadima gate had some construction workers and food vendors trapped inside.

Emergency responders were immediately at the scene with heavy earth-moving machines and other tools for search. The FCT police took charge of the scene and controlled the crowd in civilized manner.

However, it is very important to note that the collapsed building was being constructed in an area designated in the master plan as 'green area' bordering the Gwarinpa estate and Kubwa highway. It is at this point necessary for the FCT authority and the Federal government to investigate further on who allocated a strip of about 4 kilometers designated for 'green area' to developers. The FCT department of development Control must be held accountable for any lose of lives because they have failed in their statutory assignment resulting to the collapse of the building.

Again, the FCT department responsible for quality control of every structure being erected in the Federal territory must come to answer for their failure to have conducted intergrity test at each stage of the construction.
