Atiku: Kaduna Speech Smacks Of Desperation And Extreme Mindlessness - All Progressives Congress, APC

By The Nigerian Voice

The Peoples Democratic Party's Presidential flagbearer, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has poked the anger of Nigerians across board, including the Northerners on his thoughtless and provocative statement in Kaduna. The PDP Presidential candidate may have crossed the rubicon of decency in a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria by calling on his ethnic nationality to vote for him and reject contestants from other tribes.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has berated the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, APC, Atiku Abubakar, for saying northerners should vote for a northern presidential candidate in the 2023 election.

In a statement issued by Felix Morka, the spokesman of the APC, the party said such statements from Atiku smacks of desperation and extreme mindlessness.

The party’s reaction was coming against what Atiku said on Saturday at the Arewa town hall policy dialogue in Kaduna, where he said ‘What the average Northerner needs is somebody who is from the North … he doesn’t need a Yoruba Candidate or an Ibo Candidate’.

The APC described Atiku’s statement as “a decisive attack on our national unity. It is beyond the pale for a senior citizen and a former Vice President of the Federal Republic to so brazenly instigate strife and disunity in our country in pursuit of his befuddled political self interest.

“But it is not surprising coming from a desperate and serial failed Candidate for the office of President.”

The APC argued that, “If, as Atiku believes, the average Northerner needs a Northern President now, after a Northern President, when will they ever not need a Northern President? What does Atiku think the average Southerner needs? Why is it about what the average Northerner needs, or even what the average Southerner may need? Why is it not about what Nigeria and Nigerians need?
