A faith based non-government and non-political prominent Muslim group under the auspices of Standard Bearers Islamic Organisation has lamented the current economic hardship in Nigeria and called on government to address inflation.

Addressing a National press conference in Ile-Ife, Osun State, the National Coordinator of Standard Bearers Islamic Organisation, Dr. Abdulhafeez Bello said Nigerian are suffering as a result of skyrocketed prices of commodities including food items.

Dr. Abdulhafeez Bello said the goal of Standard Bearers Islamic Organisation is to promote unity, prosperity and inclusiveness in the country.

According to him, "Our country’s gloomy economic forecast, worsening inflation and job loss is not only a worrisome development but believed to contribute to the worsening insecurity in the country.

"We are also experiencing a marked emigration of our teeming youths sometimes under dangerous conditions. The persistence of our dependence on oil as the major export of the Nigerian economy, difficulty in doing business within our clime and the worsening power situation are all factors contributing to this".

Dr. Abdulhafeez Bello lamented that the administration of President Muhammad Buhari was unable to fulfill its promise to diversify the nation's economy.

His words "At the beginning of this dispensation, there was a lot of promises related to diversifying the economy, building more refineries and improvement of power generation, are all this just electioneering lies?

"There is an urgent need to rejig our economic team to allow for new ideas and focus. Nigeria is blessed with a large expanse of land, human and natural resource so we have no reasons to be in this state. In this difficult times, it is also relevant for Government to cut down on waste and exhibit sacrificial spirit to lift the country out of this economic down turn", Dr. Abdulhafeez Bello noted.
