Just In: Gunmen Invade Ondo Catholic Church, Kill Over 50 Members

No fewer than 50 members of St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State have been brutally killed by suspected gunmen on Sunday.

It was learnt that the bandits also killed passerby hit by stray bullets.

Residents in the area who revealed that the attack occurred during the church’s Sunday service, said gunmen started shooting sporadically after invading.

Explosives were also detonated by the gunmen inside premises of the church.

According to media source, the injured and the dead have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Owo, for medical attention.

Chief Medical Director (CMD) of FMC, Owo, Dr Liasu Adeagbo, told newsmen that many medical personnel have been deployed to cater for the injured persons.

He said it was still too early to speak on the issue.

Meanwhile, a nurse at Owo, who preferred anonymity, said there was not enough medical personnel on ground to attend to the victims at the emergency unit of the hospital.

She said many of the victims were taken to a private hospital.
