Residents of Ochuche Community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State and its environs were forced to remain indoors in the early hours of Tuesday, as Naval officers engaged gunmen in heavy shootout in the area.

It was gathered that the noisy gun duel, which tarried beyond expectation, did not only force some of the residents who were at home to remain indoors, but also forced those who were already out of their homes to rush back home, for the fear of the unknown.

The shootout was said to have taken place around Amiyi Junction, Ogbaru, and ensued hours after the Biafran Day commemoration observed annually on May 30.

Confirming the incident, the Anambra State's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga explained that the security operatives were on patrol when they accosted some armed criminals harassing innocent road users going about their daily businesses along the Amiyi Junction, and consequently engaged them, thereby forcing them (the gunmen) to flee the scene.

He further noted that calm had since been restored in the area, following a robust patrol ongoing now in the area, while the suitation is also being monitored.
