As the scramble among Igbo politicians for Nigeria’s presidency against 2023 general election deepens, an All Progressive Congress Chieftain in Ebonyi State, Uzor Tochukwu Okorie, has urged other aspirants to drop their ambitions and throw their weight behind Governor David Umahi.

Okorie made his stand known recently in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, while speaking to some journalists on his convictions over Umahi’s presidential ambition.

The Chieftain, a Coordinator of one of the Development Centres in Ebonyi State, hinged his call on what he described as unequalled achievements of the Governor in Ebonyi in the past couple of years. He emphasized that an Igbo president must be one who has an in-depth knowledge of the challenges facing the nation and the sagacity to provide solutions, describing Umahi as such a person.

Okorie claimed that Umahi has the magic wand to turn around the economy of the nation; address insecurity, unemployment, infrastructure and power problems of the country, having done so as Governor in Ebonyi with evident successes.

Okorie stressed: “Governor Umahi has actually transformed Ebonyi State beyond our imagination to compete favorably with other developed nations.

“Beyond roads and other magnificent infrastructural facilities stationed in different parts of the state, Umahi has performed well in other sectors such as Education, Agriculture, Human Capital Development, Power Supply, security of lives and properties amongst others.

“In fact, he has touched all facets of the society, and has performed beyond his campaign promises which has placed him ahead of other Presidential candidates in the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria and should be given massive support.

“When you look at Ebonyi State now, it is the most peaceful state in Nigeria when compared with the level of violence in other states.

“My prayer is that he should be given a chance to replicate what he has done in Ebonyi state at the National level because you hardly get such a committed and dedicated Leader with passion elsewhere.

``He is outstanding in delivering Democracy dividends to the people without fear or favor.”

On the issue of zoning the presidency come 2023, Okorie insisted that it should be the right of the Igbos of Southeast, without controversies, if justice and equity must be entrenched for peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.

“The issue of Igbo Presidency shouldn't generate any controversy in Nigeria because other zones had taken their own share and it is the turn of the South East to produce the next president in 2023 for the sake of Justice, equity and fairness” he emphasized.

Okorie who urged all Ebonyi people and residents of voting age to get themselves armed with their voter cards to support Umahi’s presidential bid, also enjoined Ebonyi citizens to support the endorsement of the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Francis Nwifuru as Governor of Ebonyi State come 2023, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

He called on those raising objections to sheath their swords, insisting that the Governor desires the best for the State.

Recall that Nwifuru’s recent endorsement by some group in the State has continued to attract stiff opposition from certain critical stakeholders both from Izzi clan, his own people, and across the State.

Nwifuru was among the 16 State lawmakers that were recently sacked by a Federal High Court, Abuja, presided by Justice Inyang Ekwo.

Umahi, few days ago had purchased Expression of Interest form for his presidential ambition from the APC headquarters, Abuja.
