Insecurity: Gunmen Attack Niger Communities, Kill Six Residents, Four Security Operatives

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed that not less than 10 persons have been killed by some suspected bandits who attacked communities in Niger State yesterday.

The Nigerian Voice gathered that six residents were killed when bandits launched an attack on Galape and Galadima Kogo communities in Shiroro council earlier in the day. According to the state police commissioner, Bala Kuryas, the four operative of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) died while on their way to the communities invaded by the bandits.

The commissioner disclosed that the officers were killed when their van ran into an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by the terrorists which exploded.

While confirming the incident, the Niger State Commissioner of local government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Honorable Emmanuel Umar, said the IED was meant to hinder security access into the communities.

In his words: “Four security officers were killed while one was severely injured. We have cordoned off the place; we are responding and monitoring the situation"

The Police Commissioner, however, stated that Police Explosive Ordinance Unit (EOD) has been deployed to sweep the area to defuse the other IEDs that may have been planted in the area

Meanwhile, Governor Abubakar Bello of the state, in a press statement, assured that the state will not give in to the terrorists.

To him: “As Government, we are determined not to hands up to these daredevil terrorists. Niger State is actively supporting the federal government-led efforts to overcome the menace of these heartless terrorists."
