This, really, is not an interesting time for Nigeria and Nigerians. At a time the country’s flat economy, for the first time in many years, is expected to benefit from the rising price of crude oil in the international market, currently at about $95 per barrel, Nigeria is transfixed in agony over a resurgent fuel crisis caused by a large quantity of dirty fuel imported into the country under the supervision of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC.

THEWILL NEWSPAPER's cover story for the week titled, NNPC Grounds Nigeria to a Halt, reports on the agony and pains of Nigerians as they count their losses in all areas of their lives as a result of the dirty fuel which has taken black market prices that now range between N500 and N1,000 per litre and some petrol stations who jerk their prices from the prevailing price of N162 per litre to between N175, N200 and N300 per litre. Just as the story lays the blame on the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC Limited), which has been seen as a cesspool of corruption in the affairs of government with the organisation remaining in the public eye over the poor management of the nation’s collective wealth, THEWILL's Publisher/Editor-in-Chief, Austyn Ogannah, on the back page, adduces reasons why the fraudulent subsidy regime should not be sustained.

THEWILL DOWNTOWN, the colourful all-gloss lifestyle and culture magazine insert of THEWILL, has on its cover the story of the return of the popular franchise game show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, with its cerebral host, Frank Edoho. The personality interview provides answers to some of the questions popping up in the minds of lovers of the game show with the return of Frank as host as they, once again, look forward to some nail-biting moments of suspense, coupled with witty closing lines.

DOWNTOWN also returns, this week, with other regulars as we embrace the new fashion season and our fashion pages show you the season’s colours. Take a cue from some of your favourite celebrities who are already spotting the colours.
