A former UK elected Councillor and the first black female President of Christian People's Alliance Party, Mrs Maria Chika Amadi has written to the UK Government through a member of Parliament (MP) representing her constituency in the UK House of Commons. In her mail of 3rd July 2021 to Selous Andrew on the subject: "Urgent support for Biafra self determination", she enumerated floods of injustices allegedly perpetuated against her native Igboland by the Nigerian government. She pointed out "...Here is the gross disparity that exists in Nigeria and now Nnamdi Kanu who is the leader of the Igbo people, a British was abducted by Kenyan government and extradited to Nigeria. As I write he is in prison"

In her second letter addressed to the British Prime Minister, Mr. Boris Johnson through her local MP, Selous Andrew she appealed to the Prime Minister for intervention on Nnamdi Kanu's situation in the hands of Nigerian government. "I would not like to believe that the UK government does not protect its citizens from torture or is The UK complicit in Nnamdi Kanu's abduction and incarceration?"

The Igbo born UK politician in an emotionally laden mail to the British Prime Minister further stated: "my fellow British Nigeria who is Igbo as well was abducted, tortured and incarcerated by both The Kenyan and Nigerian Governments and neither our Prime Minister nor the Home Secretary has made any statement or condemned this atrocity".

In a reply from UK's Home Office on 23rd July, 2021, signed by James Duddridge MP (Minister for Africa), the UK government stated that "UK is concerned by increasing violence in the South East and sharpening social divisions within Nigeria. Intercommunal violence has had a devastating impact on all communities". On Nnamdi Kanu, the government said: "The UK Government is urgently seeking clarification about the circumstances of Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest from the Nigerian Government. We have made several requests for a consular visit to Mr Kanu to the Nigerian authorities, including to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Justice. Our current priority is Mr Kanu’s health, welfare and fair treatment. The British High Commission in Nigeria stands ready to provide consular assistance".
