Ghanaians Anxious As Electoral Commission (ec) Extends Declaration Of Presidential Results

By The Nigeria Voice

The Electoral Commission (EC) has extended the timeline for declaring the 2020 presidential election results.

It says the new timeline will be communicated shortly.

The EC explained that the extension is to ensure that “collation of results at the Constituency and Regional collation centres across the country is accurate.”

The National Democratic Congress, in particular, was sceptical of the EC's 24-hour target.

The Commission said it had introduced more efficient measures which will facilitate the declaration of election results within 24 hours.

This time around, the National Collation Centre in Accra is only receiving collated presidential election results from 16 regions as opposed to results from 275 constituencies as has been the case in the past.

The only significant hold-ups in the voting process were in the Bantama and Tamale North constituencies in the Ashanti and Northern regions respectively.

The EC allowed for voting to be extended beyond 5 pm in these two areas.

In the 2016 election, results were declared two days after the close of polls.
