Hundreds of residents of Yunusari Community in Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State have been rendered homeless by flood following hours of heavy rainfall in the area on Thursday.

The flood sacked hundreds of residents and destroyed property worth millions of naira.

Yunusari Community Leader, Sheriff Zanna Yunusari confirmed to The Nigerian Voice in a telephone conversation that the flood was attributed to heavy downpour that occurred.

He also said that he has already communicated the incident to the State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA).

“The SEMA have already left on their way to Yunusari for rescue and support mission. We appreciate their rapid response to the plights of our community.

“These areas are flood prone but this is the biggest flooding we have experienced in recent times. The flood has sacked us from going out or staying at home. So far, about 200 Houses have been affected”, Sheriff said.

One of the victims from Yunusari Community, Malam Abba, said that dozens of houses were submerged. People are making frantic efforts to save some of their properties.

“We are urging the state and local governments to find a lasting solution to the problem,” he added.
