Gov. Zulum Flags Off Distribution of Empowerment Materials to 2010 IDPs From Bama, Ngala, Kaka Balge LGAs

Governor Babagama Umara Zulum of Borno State has flagged off Empowerment Programme for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) From Bama, Ngala and Kala Balge Federal Constituency Thursday.

He also pledged to support towards complementing the efforts of the state government in alleviating the sufferings of the people of the state.

While flagging off the Distribution of the empowerment programme at the Multi Purpose Hall of the Governemnts House Maiduguri, Governor Zulum commended the House of Representatives Member representing Bama, Ngala and Kala Balge Federal Constituency, Dr. Zainab Gimba for taking such a bold step to come to the aid of her Constituency people at this monumental period when people lost their means of livelihoods.

He said the support will go a long way in alleviating the sufferings of the displaced persons and give them hope to continue with their normal lives while assuring that his government will support the House Member to serve her people well.

Zulum however urged the over 2010 beneficiaries to make proper use of the materials to better their livelihoods and thanked her for the support

Speaking earlier, the House of Representatives Member representing Bama, Ngala and Kala Balge Federal Constituency, Dr. Zainab Gimba said she was moved by the level of poverty of the people and sufferings meted in them by the Insurgency where majority of the displaced persons lost their means of livelihoods to the Insurgency and became helpless and jobless thereby increasing their hardships and sufferings.

She added that in order to give them hope and cushion their sufferings, she decided to purchase vehicles and vocational skills tools and equipments especially vehicles, grinding machines, sewing machines , water pumps and tricycles to distribute to the most Vulnerables among them from the three LGAs that formed her federal Constituency to enhance their livelihoods.

Dr. Gimba disclosed that apart from the 118 vehicles, 800 sewing machines, 492 water pumps, 200 tricycles, 450 grinding machines so far 79 displaced persons have benefitted from a token cash gift ranging from N100,000-N200,000, 19 boreholes were drilled across the three LGAs, 3 graduates got employment and 115 jobs were created (vocational training ) for 115 IDPs including women and youths.

She explained also that as part of her humanitarian services, 2 deceased families with large family members were supported with N1 million each (N2 m), a family that the head was missing or kidnapped was supported with N500,000 while another deceased family was also assisted with N400,000

The Federal Lawmaker further said she was mobilising her colleagues for Environmental intervention on flooding in Kala Balge and Ngala LGAs while she has plans to support the Constituency in the areas of basic infrastructures like education, water resources which she had started, healthcare services delivery, poverty Alleviation and empowerment which she had also started.
