"Get rid of kidnapping, robbery in Ebonyi", Umahi charges CP.

Ebonyi state governor, Chief David Umahi has urged the new Commissioner of Police, CP Philip Maku to revive the security apparatus and ensure that he gets rid of kidnapping and robbery cases which is on the increase in the state.

Governor Umahi gave the directive while receiving the new Commissioner of police posted to the state who paid him a courtesy visit in the Exco Chambers of the old government house, Abakaliki.

He expressed displeasure over the alarming rate of crime in the state in the recent time and asked those who are saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and properties to rise up to the challenge.

The Governor warned that if the crime wave continues to rise especially in the area of kidnapping and robbery, he will not hesitate to sack the Commissioner for Internal security and other stakeholders in the security sector.

He said that Ebonyi state as a community is concerned about security, and that for the past two years, they have not had cases of kidnapping and robbery.

Umahi stressed the need for thorough investigation into matters brought before the police, adding that they would have have to go to court to obtain order to detain suspects for thorough investigation.

He informed the new CP that he had a wonderful team that would help him to carry out the task of policing Ebonyi and that all his predecessors performed creditably well in their duties.

Earlier, Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi state command, CP Philip Maku said he was ready to key into governance which is security and welfare coupled with community partnership with the use of technology in crime prevention.

CP Maku said with the cooperation of the society, crime will be reduced to the barest minimum in the state, adding that as humans there is no perfection.

He explained that security is everybody's business and that in community policing, the community liases with the community to fish out the bad eggs among the people which makes peace to reign.

He urged the people of Ebonyi to always volunteer information that will help the police to rid the society of crime and not to harbour any criminal living among them.
