Covid - 19: Ebonyi Govt. Officials, 14 others discharged

Joy and fanfare have greeted the people of Ebonyi state following the recovery and subsequent discharge of the State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Professor Ogbonnaya Chukwu, and the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Clement Nweke.

The duo who tested positive to coronavirus disease were admitted at the newly constructed 300-bed capacity corona virus and other infectious diseases treatment centre located at the Teaching Hospital Abakaliki.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike said that both principal officers of Governor David Umahi’s administration and 14 other persons were discharged after testing negative to the virus after spending about one week receiving treatment.

Dr. Daniel Umezurike, at the occasion, thanked God for the survival of the two government officials and urged the general public to continue to obey NCDC safety protocols.

Reliable source close to state government revealed that a handful of other members of the State Executive Council members who also tested positive are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Ebonyi state Governor, Chief David Umahi has directed all Executive council members to embark on compulsory test for the virus within the period.

Chief Umahi also directed the State civil servants to work from home within the seven days period while staff of Ministry of Finance and Budget were also mandated to go for blood sample testing of coronavirus.
