June 4: The Benefits of Unity

By Bassey Ekong

“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” 1 Corinthians 1:10 (KJV).

Unity means oneness, harmony, or agreement. The origin of unity is God. The Godhead is made up of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one (1 John 5:7). They speak the same thing and agree on the same thing. No wonder Apostle Paul asked the Corinthian church to speak the same thing and to be perfectly united in their way of thinking and in their judgment.

The devil is the enemy of the church and family so a spirit-minded believer should never keep any ladder for the accuser of brethren to climb. God will destroy every disunity in the church and families in Jesus mighty name amen.

The key to overcoming divisions or factions is unity, humility, love, and the fear of God. Unity or oneness also activates the power of God to operate in the human family and in the body of Christ (Acts 4:31). As the body of Christ, we can and should accomplish much in the service of winning more souls for Christ. Unity will enable us to pool our resources together to reach further than what just one person can do.

Dearly beloved, make every effort through prayers, kindness, fellowship, and cooperation to keep your family in particular, and the local church united in love, the Word, mind, and good judgment, and watch how God will bless and use you to do mighty things that will amaze you. A threefold cord cannot be easily broken, therefore, stay United, speak in one voice and be in one accord, the power of the Holy spirit will flow in your family and in the church to the glory of our God.

The body of Christ is experiencing so much strife and contentions in these modern times because of the apparent lack of the fear of God in people, children, youths, in deed, the family system and therefore, the church.

Let’s go back to the basics, and follow the footsteps of Jesus, and follow that old-time religion. A song writer says “Give me that old time religion, it was good for Paul and Silas, it was good for Mary and Martha, it was good for Hebrew Children and it will be good enough for us” if we are united like the Patriarchs, speaking in one voice. It will glorify God. Hallelujah to Jesus.

Let’s pray: Our heavenly Father, unite the body of Christ together according to your Word. Help us to destroy contentions and strife in our midst. Bind us together in love and help us to be overcomers of the world through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
