Plateau State University To Start Readmitting Students In September
JOS, June 20, (THEWILL) - The Plateau State University, Bokkos, closed down three years ago by the present administration in the state will reopen for full academic session in September as new sets of students will be admitted, the university authority has said.
Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Prof. Daniel Saror, made this known after the first meeting of the council which held in Bokkos.
He said since the former students who have been absorbed by the University of Jos would remain there while new sets of students would be admitted to start afresh in the university.
The pro chancellor explained to newsmen that the council has given the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Wade, the go-ahead to commence preparations for recruiting full as well part time staff and to admit new students to the school before the next academic session.
Prof. Saror said however that many things have to be put in place before the resumption date as the long period of closure of the university had caused some of the infrastructural facilities to decay.
"Some of the infrastructures needed to be replaced and others brought back to shape for the comfort of both staff and students," he stated adding that with the commitment of all the stakeholders to the funding arrangement for the institution, he foresees no hitches in reopening the school.
"We have reviewed all activities that led to the suspension of the university and having been given the assurance by the state governor, when he inaugurated this council, we are confident that by the next academic year, we should be admitting students into the university," he said.
Vice chancellor of the university, Prof John Wade said that the institution is set to bounce back as it has renewed all its linkages with the state government and funding partners and expressed optimism that with the commitment of all the stakeholders, the university would bounce back by September this year.
He added that by the next council meeting, a lot of changes would have been recorded so that advertisement for staff and students would be made, adding that a lot of academics have indicated interest to be part of the teaching staff.
