Umaru Musa Yar'Adua The Best President Nigeria Ever Had – IGP Ogbonna Onovo (Rtd)

By The Nigeria Police

The 14th indigenous Inspector General of Police and the first IG of Igbo extraction have joined other Nigerians to reflect on the life and times of Late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

In an interaction with our correspondent, the former Nigerian Interpol boss described the late President as a Prince who lived the life of a pauper, insisting that he was humble to a fault. He saw in Nigeria’s late leader, a true patriot, devoid of ethnic or religious bias.

The former Police chief descended heavily on many who are today eulogizing the former President, describing them as shameless sycophants. He went further to state that at the challenging time of the former President, the same people were praying for his death in order to occupy his position. He recounted how some of them were abusing him and his family, especially his wife, whom they alleged was running a cabal at the presidency. This same people today, made unprintable derogatory comments about his entire family.

Continuing, he acknowledged his visionary leadership when he negotiated and completed the Niger Delta Amnesty programme, thereby resuscitating the then ailing economy. The peace and development being enjoyed in the Niger Delta was the brain child of our late leader, Umaru Musa yar’Adua, he stated.

As a former governor of Katsina State and later, Nigeria’s President, nobody ever associated him with noxious practices. His home in Katsina is like any other middle class residence. His family home where his mother lived is a still a-mud house till date.

“Barely four days after my appointment as IGP, boko haram struck simultaneously in 5 states – Borno, Bauchi, Yobe, Kano and Katsina. He directed his security chiefs to crush the insurgency and warned that no country can survive under such circumstance – militancy in the Niger Delta and insurgency in the North East. The rest is history”.

Finally, the former IGP thoughtfully said that Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua would always be remembered for his humility, integrity, transparency, obedience to the rule of law and good governance and his noble vision for this country. “A true patriot, the vacuum his death created will be difficult to fill. May his gentle soul continue to rest in peace in the bosom of the lord.
