Youths in Osun state drawn from different groups and movements staged a peaceful protest in Osogbo, capital of Osun a day before yesterday to demand an end to police brutality in Nigeria.

The protest which was led by Comrade Ige Oluwasegun Ebenezer and Comrade Abosede Oluwaseun started from the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park and terminated at the headquarters of the Osun State Police Command at Ring Road area.

Ige and Abosede lamented that the harassment of innocent citizens by some policemen has become worrisome. They demanded an end to police brutality in all parts of the country.

They frowned at the killing of a young man, Kolade Jonson in Lagos. They commended the police authority for the sack of the policeman that killed Jonson and urged the police authority to disband the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

The protesters were monitored by policemen and operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) from the beginning to the end of the protest.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs Abiodun Ige who received the protesters at the police headquarters in Osogbo commended them for conducting themselves peacefully all through.

The CP assured the protesters that their message would be delivered to the police headquarters and that necessary steps would be taken to prevent reoccurrence of accidental discharge by policemen.
