Having gone through the recommendations of the CAPP Secretariat towards addressing the dehumanizing treatment meted out to Nigerians and other Africans in Libya, I must commend the Secretariat for its swift and thoughtful response. Undoubtedly the situation we are witnessing in Libya calls for great concern and collective action from all stakeholders.

She added, I must specially thank the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari for directing that immediate repatriation and succor be provided for the affected Nigerians.

Indeed, CAPP by its mandate and vision can and must play a prominent role in the resolution of the unfortunate situation.

As the President of the Council of African Political Parties, proffered additional measures:

  1. That CAPP encourages Libya to actively liaise with the various countries whose Nationals were/are affected by the nefarious activities of human traffickers; through their embassies and ministries of foreign affairs to forestall a breakdown of diplomatic relations.Ensure a thorough investigation of the incident to uncover the identity and modus operandi of the gangs and syndicate
  2. Advocate for some form of compensation for the victims of the unfortunate incident, as well as appropriate punishment for perpetrators of the incident to serve as deterrent to others.
  3. Embark on a rigorous sensitization exercise in affected countries like Nigeria, Cameroon, Libya etc., Against:
  1. Human trafficking
  2. Illegal migration
