Six Dead, Others Injured In New Trend Of Criminal Attacks In Delta

Palpable fear has gripped residents of Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, following a new trend of attacks on families through the throwing of fuel on houses.

At least four children were said to have died as unknown persons threw fuel through the windows of their residence before setting them ablaze.

A warder at the Federal Prisons Ogwashi-Uku, who is also a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Sidney Nwaiga, was the latest victim of the attack as burners throw petrol into the room where two of his kids were sleeping at their Ubul-Unor Road residence.

The pastor was however severely burnt while trying to save the children from the inferno.

It was gathered that the two children later died while the man was rushed to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital Nnewi, Anambra State.

Similarly, a female polytechnic student (name withheld) received severe burns when an unknown person throw petrol into her room, even as the police are said to be on the trail of the victim’s boyfriend who allegedly had a misunderstanding with her few days before the incident.

It was further gathered that a woman also lost her two children in Isah road area of the town in a similar circumstance.

A woman and her child were also said to have died when following a high voltage at their residence in the night. The burning ceiling was said to have fallen on them while asleep.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Andrew Aniamaka when contacted on Wednesday said that the victims of fuel attacks in Ogwashi-Uku did not incident the cases with the police saying “we are however intensifying investigation to curb further occurrences.
