Countdown: Young Writers Set To Celebrate Achebe
Arising from the success of the previous edition; the Society of Young Nigerian Writers, Anambra State Chapter in collaboration with Anambra State Central E-Library, is set to honour and celebrate a Literary Pioneer and an ebullient indigen of the state - Late Prof. Chinua Achebe. Though dead, Achebe IS the pride of his state (Anambra), his country (Nigeria) and the entire African continent at large.
This programme tagged:
''Remembering CHINUA ACHEBE: A LITERARY GIANT'' is aimed at celebrating the lives, works and the legacies of the late literary champion - Prof. Chinua Achebe, in whose memory it is being held.
Achebe was born on the 16th day of November 1930 in his home town of Ogidi, in the present day Anambra State; and played a great role worthy of recognition, emulation and celebration in the literary field of life. After his death since 21st March 2013; nothing worth has been done to recognize, appreciate and celebrate the works and the life of this literary crackerjack nor his indelible vestiges in the literary field of life.
This indeed represents the prime aim and rationale behind initiation and weaving of this great memorial event. This programme, being its second edition, would also wing the commemoration of Achebe's 86th year of entry into the world.
The event is slated to take place on Achebe's birthday - the 16th of November 2017 at the auditorium hall of the Prof. Kenneth Dike Central E-Library, Awka, Anambra State. Time starting by 9.am .
All the members of different writers' associations; members of the public, teachers, lecturers, students, traders; fellow writers both burgeoning and established, artists, readers, civil servants, government officials, school heads, creative minds, lovers of literary works as well as all the lovers of Achebe and Achebe's works are cordially invited to this great occasion.
Come let's give honour to whom it is due. The event will feature reading and fracturing of Achebe's works, brief creative writing workshop, recitation of poems and essays; presentation of literary works in the memory of the legend; dramatization of Achebe's works; lectures by notable and resourceful speakers; life and works of Achebe; quiz competitions in the works and life of Achebe; entertainment plus other enticing literary activities and packages slated for the day.
