Shops Looted, Many Injured As Hoodlums Clash In Mushin

BEVERLY HILLS, April 24, (THEWILL) – A gang of hoodlums wielding guns and machetes on Monday morning torched and looted shops at Idi-Oro in Mushin, Lagos. This left several persons sustaining injuries.

A fight was said to have erupted on Sunday night between suspected cultists at Alamutu Street in the area. Just as another crisis broke out at Hausa Community in Ijegun, forcing schools and shops to shut their businesses for the day.

The Nation gathered that sporadic gunshots created apprehension about a possible militant attack in the riverine community.

Young men in the early hours of Monday invaded Alamutu Street in Mushin, shooting sporadically from Akala Elegba as residents fled for their lives. The crisis also led to the shutting down of schools and businesses in the neighbourhood.

Police operatives deployed from the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, Area D Command and Akala Division stormed the area to contain the situation.

The report has it that the police deployed two armoured tank and a Black Maria to the scene and arrested at least 15 suspects.

Eyewitnesses were quoted as saying that some of the arrested suspects were chased into inner streets after residents identified them as gang members, who took part in the fracas.

They were caught with cutlasses, axes as well as bags of marijuana recovered from their hideouts.

Among those arrested was a suspect who the police paraded for alleged pick pocketing at Oshodi.

Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to the area as people are now seen going about their normal businesses.
