In accordance with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Anchor Borrowers programme in Delta State, the project monitoring team led by Mr Mathew Badaiki has commenced verification and distribution of 60kg rice seedlings inputs to 20 certified farmers in Ugiliamai Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state repayable in six months upon harvest.

The 60kg rice seedlings was supplied by the inputs supplier, Raymos Guanah farms to members of Ike Neli Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative Society after a strenuous verification exercise by the team.

The farmers are to cultivate about 26 hectares of land which is expected to yield about 91metric tonnes of paddy rice.

During the verification exercise, the chairman Mr Badaiki, explained that the Anchor Borrowers programme is part of the CBN deliberate effort to assist genuine farmers in a view to ensure sufficiency in rice production in Nigeria which could also be exported.

He also added that the verification exercise of farmers is to ensure that the benefactors of the programme are genuine farmers, warning those who are not farmers to desist from participating as their signatures and photographs would be used to track anyone who benefits from the programme illegally while urging the beneficiaries to embrace the programme with all seriousness, stressing that they should not be seen as a political settlement.

Inputs expected to be supplied are rice seedlings, fertilizers and chemicals.
