A 32-year old man, whose name Ukpakareports.com gathered to be Chris Anueyionu has been arrested by the Anambra State Vigilante Services (AVS) popularly called Scorpion Squad for his involvement in kidnap activities in the state.

The coordinator of the Scorpion Squad, Chief Keneth Okonkwo told journalists that the man was rounded up together with 11 members of his gang after they received priviledged information from members of the public.

Our correspondent gathered that the young man who is a 200-level drop out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is also a surveyor. A profession he went into after he was found out to have dropped out of school despite still deceiving his parents that he is a still in school.

A source told Ukpakareport.com that he dabbled into cultism while still in school, and latter a kidnap gang, to whom he sold the idea of kidnapping two of his step mother's children for ransom. The deal was said to have sailed through as his father upon the kidnap of the two children ran around and paid the sum of N2.5million to the kidnappers without the knowledge that his senior son masterminded it.

Still basking in the euphoria of the successful deal, it was gathered that he immediately initiated another plan, where a distant relation of his who was performing the wine carrying ceremony of his to-be-wife was to be kidnapped. This time, the bride and her mum were picked by the gang our source said, while ransom was quickly placed on their head. He was said to have ran out of luck when some elders decided they were going to consult an oracle, and that who ever is involved would die, just as some of his gang members confessed to the crime and were latter picked up by the State vigilante service.

While speaking with journalists, the leader of the Scorpion Squad said that the suspects have confessed to the crime, and even accepted being responsible for the earlier kidnap of two children believed to the brother of one of the members. Okonkwo said that the suspect gave his reason for the action as his father's preference for his half brothers to him.

Okonkwo said that the AVS would hand the suspects over to the police for trial. As at the time of filling this report, it was however not ascertained if the suspects have truly been handed over to the Anambra State Police Command.

When contacted on phone, he said that he has not been officially briefed if the suspects have been handed over. He promised to reach out to our correspondent when he finds out, but never did as the time of filing this report.
