ABUJA, May 20, (THEWILL) - The House of Representatives has said it will pursue its stand on the marriage of Senator Sani Yerima to a thirteen year old Egyptian to a logical end.

Both the House and the Senate had resolved to investigate the issue for which the lawmaker was arrested by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related matters (NAPTIP).

Speaker Dimeji Bankole stated the position of the House while addressing members of the Children Parliament who were in the National Assembly to push for the passage of child friendly laws by the legislature.

Bankole said the House is investigating the circumstances surrounding the marriage between the 50 year-old lawmaker and a 13 year-old Egyptian girl and vowed to “pursue the matter to its logical end”.

The attention of the House was drawn to the marriage by Honourable Abike Dabiri who condemned the nuptial union and prayed the legislature to look into it.

Dabiri’s motion came on the heels of such motion in the Senate by female senators who also called on the upper house to investigate the issue.

Yerima who was arrested and later released on bail by NAPTIP is also to face the ethics committees of the two chambers of the National Assembly on the matter.
