AANI condemns renewed xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa
The Alumni Association of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (AANI) has strongly condemned the indiscriminate unprovoked xenophobic attacks on Nigerians resident in South Africa.
The President of the Association, Maj. General (rtd) Lawrence Onoja, mni made this call during the historic courtesy visits by the National Executive Committee of the Association to the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and His Royal Majesty, Omo n'Oba n'edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewaure II, Oba of Benin on Wednesday February 22nd 2017 in Benin City.
AANI observed that this was not the first time of such unprovoked attacks on Nigerians and other nationals resident in South Africa.
Similar attacks in 2015 claimed several lives with businesses owned by Nigerians and other foreigners completely burnt down.
While describing the serial xenophobic attacks on innocent Africans resident in South Africa as grossly unwarranted, condemnable and unacceptable, AANI calls on the government of Nigeria in particular and the African Union (AU) to hold South African authorities accountable for the security of all Nigerians and Africans resident in South Africa.
