Magu, SGF: Buhari orders investigation into corruption allegations

President Buhari has ordered an investigation into the corruption accusation levied against some top officers in his administration.

Without mentioning which of the officials, it is evident that the President is referring to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and the Acting Chairman of the anti-corruption boss, Ibrahi Magu who have been accused of corrupt practices.

This was disclosed in a short statement made by the President’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu on Sunday.

“The attention of the presidency has been drawn to a number of reports in the media, in which various accusations of corruption have been levelled against some top officials in the administration.

“In that regard, President Buhari has instructed the Attorney General of the Federation to investigate the involvement of any top government officials accused of any wrong-doing. If any of them are liable they will not escape prosecution.”

The Senate had indicted Mr. Lawal of diverting public fund meant for the troubled north-east where the jihadists, Boko Haram being fought, using one of his companies.

Though he had denied the accusation, the Senate had however, recommended that he be suspended and prosecuted.

On the other hand, the senate, last week, refused to confirm the acting chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Magu stating the security report by the State Security Service, SSS as a reason.
