IBORI'S ARREST: PROTEST IN OGHARA AS FG DEPLOYS MORE TROOPS IN WARRI

Many persons were seriously injured on Thursday at Oghara, Delta State, the town of former governor od the state, James Ibori in reaction to his announced arrest in Dubai on Wednesday.

Saturday Sun found that embittered youths in warlike outfit, mounted several blockade on the Warri-Sapele road as well as in major streets within Oghara town.

In the melee between the protesters and security operatives, many of the youths were reported wounded.

Similarly the Federal Government has deployed more troops to Warri, Effurum and the riverine communities in the area to forestall any breakdown of the law and order.

Though no reason was given for the latest worrisome development, Saturday Sun was told that government was becoming uncomfortable over the endless search for Chief Ibori until the breakthrough of his arrest became manifest yesterday in far away Dubai.

Meanwhile mixed feelings have continued to greet the arrest of ex-Governor Ibori.

A former Health Commissioner in the state, Dr. Richard Tosanwumi, described it as big shame that Chief Ibori has allowed himself to be treated like a common criminal and fugitive.

Tosanwumi who is the Chairman, Central Working Committee, Delta State Elders and leaders stakeholders forum contended that the invitation for questioning by the EFCC based on the forum's petition should not have led to his (Ibori) fleeing the country if his hands were clean as he professes.

Besides, Ibori had severally expressed confidence in the country's judicial system, so, why then did he choose to abscond.

'His arrest by Interpol if proven to be true has put Deltans in bad light all over the world. Delta State elders, leaders and stakeholders forum is patriotic, serous-minded body which is determined to ensure that anybody who defrauds our state is brought to justice', he said.
