Community Development: NBC Donates Classroom Block to Primary School in Abuja
As part of its corporate social responsibility thrustand community development initiatives,non-alcoholic beverage manufacturing giant, Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) has built and handed overa 2-Classroom Block, fully furnished with desks, chairs and other classroom fittings to Kuchingoro Primary School, Abuja. The handover ceremony which took place on November 8, 2016, within the school premises in Kuchingoro, Abuja, had in attendance, community leaders, officials from the local education district authority, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), parents, students and teachers.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, NBC Public Affairs Manager, Abuja and Northern Region, Aminu Mohammed, said, “The need to contribute positively to societal development remains key to economic growth in Nigeria and NBC would continue to play its part to provide the needed support in the areas of greatest needs. The provision of this fully furnished 2-Classroom block isborne out of a request from the community to support with additional classroom space for the pupils of the school, which was over-stretched, especially as it hoststhousands of internally displaced persons from the North-East region”.
NBC’s relationship and collaboration with its host communities where the Company operates dateback many decades. Amongst the recent laudable NBC initiatives in its host community are, construction of a borehole with tank for Kuchingoro Community in 2013, donation of ‘Back to School’ Kits to 2000 pupils in Kuchingoro Primary School in 2014, provision of 700 ‘Back to School’ Kits in 2015 to the neighboring community, LEA Karmajiji Primary School and in 2016, the provision of a fully furnished 2-Classroom Block to Kuchingoro Primary School, Abuja.
Stating further, Aminu Mohammed reiterated that, NBC is very passionate about youth development and empowerment. “As a company, we are fully committed to sustainable partnerships with stakeholders, collaborating with States’ Ministry of Education and States Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEB) to provide the needed infrastructure for the development of Education. The donated project serves as a tool for the upliftment of education in Nigeria and sustainability for humanity”, he said.
In appreciation of NBC’s donation, Head of Primary School Services,Kuchingoro Primary School, Hajiya Hauwakulu Lawal, appreciated the contribution of NBC to the school, stating that the Company has continuously shown collaboration and deliberate contribution to the development of education in the country. She urged other corporate organizations to emulate the supportive drive of NBC and admonished the pupils to continue in their good conduct toensure longevity of the newly built and furnished classroom block.
