Aksg To Train 3000 Akwa Ibom Youths On Ict In One Month

Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has stated that his administration is not playing politics with governance but committed to achieving a technology driven economy.

The Governor stated this during the official flag off of the Akwa Ibom Employment and Enterprise Scheme (AKEES) ICT Training Programme at the Onyeama Ogechwuku Hall, University of Uyo town campus.

According to the Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor Mr. Moses Ekpo, MFR at the event, the first human capacity building project embarked upon by his administration, was the training of 1000 youths of the state on ORACLE database administrator, to equip them to deploy their skills in the market place so as to be able to compete favourably with their counterparts in the global digital space.

He added that, the programme will empower more youths and complement the industrial strides of his administration.

Mr. Ufot Ebong explained that the programme is aimed at empowering, developing and harnessing talents in Akwa Ibom State for self-employment and reliance.

According to him, the intensive training will be completed in the course of one month, and commended the youths for turning up in large numbers

“Akwa Ibom People are very talented, an average Akwa Ibom Youth aspires to be a leading entrepreneur in the market place, so for those who are aspiring to be technology experts, The AKEES ICT Training will help train them in areas such as; Computer Appreciation skills, Computer Engineering, Web Development, Android Programming and Basic Programming”. Ebong maintained.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mrs. Meflyn Anwana thanked the Governor Emmanuel led administration for opening up the digital media space and creating a culture of accountability, transparency and open governance using digital media, saying that her dream is to see multibillion dollar businesses that will proffer world solutions emerge from the digital economy in Uyo.

Mr. Solomon Eyo, the SA on ICT, who addressed Governor Emmanuel as an ICT friendly Governor said the one month intensive training will feature computer repairs, computer networking and Vsat installation.

He noted that at the end of programme, participants are expected to be fully equipped as well as build higher value for their businesses in the ICT Industry.

In his testimonial, Mr Uduak Umoatan the Co-founder of Codekago Interactive a beneficiary of AKEES in the ICT sector, said that the AKEES scheme has exposed him to many opportunities both locally and globally.

Mr. Uduak said that ICT is not meant for only graduates in the Science or computer department but open to all who are interested in learning.

According to Mr. Tony Onuk the Project Manager of AKEES, most of the beneficiaries are not only ICT inclined, he sighted an example where an accounting graduate is now a Web Design expert stating that anyone can achieve greatness if he or she is determined to do so

Present at the occasion were; Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Moses Ekpo (MFR), The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Technical Matters and Due Process, Mr. Ufot Ebong, The Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mrs. Meflyn Anwana and The Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT, Mr. Solomon Eyo.
